At Newchurch, our aim is to ensure all children enjoy, and are engaged in, Physical Education and Sport. Through Physical Education we aim to develop the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding to enable them to perform with increasing confidence and competence in  a range of physical activities, all underpinned by the three key fundamentals of agility, balance and coordination

These include:

  •          invasion games
  •          dance
  •          gymnastics
  •          racket sports
  •          athletics
  •          striking and fielding sports.

Swimming in Key Stage Two is also taught offsite through our partners at Livewire where children will become proficient swimmers and have a clear understanding of water safety. Children in Years 4 and 5 receive a block of intensive swimming lessons and catch up sessions are available in Year 6 should they be needed.

Skills are built upon as the children progress through school where they can embed prior learning and master their next steps. We aim to improve health and well-being, promote active participation and lifelong learning, and for each child to fulfil their potential. The PE curriculum is enriched with a wealth of both inter and intra-school competitions

We strive to ensure that the children’s experience of Physical Education is positive and motivating and that children’s attitudes to a healthy lifestyle are firmly embedded in our curriculum to encourage lifelong habits of a healthy body and a healthy mind.
